The organizers of Oakland's LGBTQ pride parade face an uncertain future as they've lost their headquarters due to increasing real-estate costs.
The clock started ticking on Oakland Pride in October when the new owner of the building in downtown Oakland that houses two queer nightclubs doubled the rent. Club BNB and Club 21 had donated space to the LGBTQ non-profit for four years, but will close January 15.
The building, between Broadway and Franklin Street, will become offices for tech companies, TV-station KPIX reported.
The parade, which attracts 60,000 attendees, is scheduled for September 13.
"The planning is going to have to happen out of the homes of our board members," said Oakland Pride co-chairperson Carlos Uribe. "That's a reality and we're just going ot have deal with that."
While officials search for new quarters, Uribe said they will have to rent storage unit costing about $800 to $1,200 a month. "Which is a significant increase for us," Uribe said.
