What will school look like in the fall?
Santa Clara County is beginning to sketch out a plan and it comes with some big changes in the classroom.
The just-released county guidelines lay out a range of safety recommendations and mandates for schools, covering everything from masks to desk arrangements to guidance on how to best keep students safe on the school bus.
"There will be more social distancing and physical distancing as children enter school," Santa Clara County Superintendent of Schools Dr. Mary Ann Dewan said.
The guidelines also call for daily coronavirus screening of students and more disinfecting of classroom supplies.
All this planning now is intended to give schools more time to get ready if and when in-person classes do return, but that still remains a big "if." Santa Clara County health officials said the decision to reopen will ultimately depend on how successful we are at fighting the coronavirus pandemic in the coming months.
If schools can’t open, officials said they’ll be ready for online learning.
