SAN FRANCISCO — City police are investigating a shooting at Dolores Park Sunday afternoon.
Witnesses said they heard several gunshots around 5 p.m., causing crowds to flee from the popular Mission District park.
Police found one man with gunshot wounds in the stomach. He was taken to San Francisco General Hospital with critical injuries and was in stable condition.
"I heard a few gunshots go off. They sounded like fireworks," said Marlon Monge, of San Carlos. He told TV-station KPIX that he was enjoying the day with friends in the park. "At first, I didn't really know how to react. But then I saw a bunch of people running, so there was obviously something go on."
The shooting happened on the western side of the park near Church Street. The city's annual Carnaval celebration was taking place nearby.
Police roped off the staircase at the top of Dolores Park for several hours while they looked for evidence.
Two people were detained by police, according to the San Francisco Chronicle, but the department did not confirm if they've been arrested.
