Gas Station Shootout Leaves Man Dead in Fairfield

FAIRFIELD (KCBS Radio) -- Police arrested a suspect Monday morning, hours after numerous shots were fired outside an Arco service station on North Texas Street.

Fairfield Police said responded to a call of people fighting and shots fired late Sunday night.  When officers reached the scene, they found one person dead and another seriously wounded. The wounded victim was taken to the hospital Smith what were called "life-threatening" injuries.


A clerk at the service station told Sacramento's CBS13 television that he heard a commotions outside and when he looked, he saw a scene of confusion with people running and shouting about gunshots. He said he dialed 911.

Fairfield Police said they were investigating the incident when they got word that another possible victim had walked into a local hospital emergency room.  Detectives said they determined that the man, Souljah Corbin, 22,  of Fairfield, was involved in the gas station shooting. Corbin  was then arrested and booked on charges of murder and attempted murder.

The identity of the dead man has not been released but Fairfield Police described him as a 30 year old Fairfield resident.

Police said the motive for the shooting remains under investigation, but they said it was not a random act.
