A woman is in custody after driving an allegedly stolen car through San Francisco streets and causing multiple collisions that sent two bystanders to the hospital, according to city police officials.
The chase started Wednesday afternoon when officers spotted a car in the Tenderloin neighborhood that had been reported stolen, Sgt. Mike Andraychak said to TV-station KPIX.
Officers on foot and in patrol cars managed to block the car directly in front of the Tenderloin station, but the suspect drove onto the sidewalk, hitting a worker and some scaffolding before striking several more vehicles and getting away.
"When the officers rounded the corner of Sixth and Clara, they saw that the suspect vehicle had been involved in another collision with another vehicle. The suspect stopped at that point," said Andraychak. "It's my understanding right now that that collision is what prevented the suspect from going any further.
The suspect was taken to a hospital and will be booked after being treated for her injuries.
The first pedestrian who was hit sustained life-threatening injuries and is hospitalized in stable condition.
The other person who was struck was hospitalized with non-life threatening injuries.
