Fire investigators are looking into the cause of a 2-alarm apartment blaze in San Jose that claimed the life of one woman and left nearly a dozen other residents homeless on Monday.
Many residents from the Foxdale Loop apartments on Capitol Expressway awoke before dawn to the sound of neighbors banging on their door, yelling "fire."
"And all we saw was just a big, big fire coming down a little towards our apartment," said Ronisha Williams, who escaped in her pajamas.
In all four units were damaged. Williams said she heard that the neighbor who perished "was trying to get out and got trapped."
She didn't know the woman that died, but "was praying for their family."
Fire officials said that they learned of the fire at 6:50 a.m. Twenty five minutes later, they learned that a person was inside an apartment that caught fire.
Because of the death, the fire will be investigated by San Jose's police and fire departments.
