A security feature on a Tesla provided San Francisco police with footage that helped catch the alleged burglar who had broken into the car on the Embarcadero.

Jed Franklin, a model from Folsom, posted a video on Facebook of the would-be thief hopping out of a Honda Civic that pulled in front of the parked Tesla and cracking open a rear window before returning to the Honda empty-handed.

The car's Sentry mode captures video and sends an alert to the owner when someone disturbs it.

"This is what vandalism looks like. Thanks to a recent software update, my Tesla Model 3 recorded the incident," Franklin wrote. "The thief didn’t steal anything. I guess he didn’t need a child booster seat or empty grocery bags."

San Francisco police arrested Jeremiah Jefferson, 21 and charged him with the burglary and a probation violation.
