Drivers crossing the Golden Gate Bridge and riders using a variety of Bay Area transit systems began paying more on July 1 as higher fares and tolls took effect.
The Golden Gate Bridge now costs $7.35 for drivers using FasTrak, up from $7, and $8.20 for the "pay-as-you-go" option.
"It's the first year of a new five-year toll increase which will bring in about $100 million in revenue to go toward Golden Gate Bridge operations and maintenance as well as Golden Gate Ferry transit," said bridge district spokeswoman Priya Clemens.
The additional revenue will boost bus and ferry service, and pay down a deficit, Clemens said.
The ferries from Larkspur and Sausalito are more expensive too, as well as the buses running from Marin County.
In San Francisco, Muni riders will pay more for single and limited use rides if they're paying with cash. One trip on a city bus or train will cost $3.00. Passengers using Clipper cards and the Muni mobile app continue to pay $2.50.
Cable car riders must now pay $8 —up from $7 — to get carried up and down the hilly streets.
In the East Bay, fares went up on AC Transit and rides on the San Francisco Bay Ferry routes also jumped.
