Just in time for opening day of Major League Baseball, the San Francisco Giants have released requirements for people who want to watch games in-person.
Fans will have to bring more than just drink money and sunscreen when they show up. When the Giants open at Oracle Park next Friday, fans will need to show proof of full COVID-19 vaccination or a recent negative test result.
Giants CEO Larry Baer acknowledged they're one of the few teams with such safety requirements.
"There were regulations issued by the state and the city looked at those regulations and added some other elements, but we're going to have a very safe facility and we think it's in the public interest to go the direction we're going," Baer told KCBS Radio.
Under the guidelines, fully vaccinated fans can go to games two weeks after their last or only shot, depending on which vaccine was received.
There are no such requirements at the Coliseum, where the Oakland A's open Thursday to a limited capacity, sold out crowd of just over 12,000.
A's President Dave Kaval said they worked with the state and county to come up with a plan that would not require vaccinations or testing. Instead, it relies on masking and social distancing.
"I think we learned down in Arizona that we can keep pretty high compliance by remind people, having the signage, working with the different ushers to remind folks that you have to keep the mask on except when you're eating food or drinking," he explained. "People were mostly good about it, so I'm hoping it'll be the same in Oakland."
