(WWJ) A 53-year-old Detroit man is hospitalized, after being shot during an argument that may have been over stimulus money.

Reports on Tuesday said that the shooter and the victim were in a dispute over a $1,400 COVID-19 aid check, which has been deposited or appeared as pending in many Americans' bank accounts over the past few days.

Police told WWJ Newsradio 950 that, while they are still investigating what exactly happened, at this time they do believe an argument over stimulus cash may have led to the shooting.

The incident happened on Rutherford Street near West McNichols on the city's west side.

Police have arrested the 31-year-old suspected shooter.

The wounded man was listed in temporary serious condition later in the day.

No names have been released.
