Fremont police on Monday said Arrow Recovery Group – located at 46025 Warm Springs Blvd. in Fremont – bought stolen catalytic converters as part of a long-standing criminal operation victimizing residents and businesses.
Over a several-month-long investigation, undercover detectives sold cut catalytic converters to Arrow Recovery marked or etched with "stolen," or other markings suggesting they had been illegally obtained, police said. The "stolen" catalytic converters were repeatedly purchased from the officers.
Authorities raided the recycling center in June, recovering multiple 55-gallon drums of refined and semi-refined catalytic converter material, along with at least 300 suspected stolen catalytic converters.
Police said they'll work with the Alameda County District Attorney's Office to prosecute Arrow Recovery Group for receiving stolen property.
The goal of the operation was to shut down a major pathway for criminals to sell stolen catalytic converters. According to a release, Fremont has seen a drop in stolen catalytic converter thefts over the last few months in correlation with the investigation.
