Anyone hoping to celebrate 420 Day in San Francisco will find police patrols and barricades at Golden Gate Park.

The city is once again trying to prevent a potential "superspreader" event.

As much as everyone is tired of coronavirus pandemic restrictions and excited about reopening, San Francisco Mayor London Breed put a stop to hopes of this year’s 420 Day in remarks last week. "We are not a at a place where we can allow large-scale events," she said. "Sadly, this year’s 420 (Day) in San Francisco is officially canceled."

The same cancellation happened last year and the crowds did stay away from Golden Gate Park. This year, Robin Williams Meadow will be fenced off, and San Francisco Police Captain Chris Padrini told KCBS Radio officers will also be on patrol looking for any large gatherings.

"We are prepared to do enforcement, if necessary," he said. "But we’re asking for your cooperation by celebrating safely at home or in your neighborhood."

Organizers of 420 Day are hosting a virtual event online, featuring livestreams with Bob Saget and Snoop Dog.
