A spokesperson for the family of 40-year-old Daniel Luna has confirmed to KCBS Radio that Luna is awake and has started rehab. "Daniel has significant physical…speech therapy issues," family friend and crisis communications professional Sam Singer said.
Luna will be discharged from the hospital later this month.
"It's a certified miracle because I never expected to hear Daniel's voice again," Singer said.
The restaurant owner was put in a medically-induced coma after an altercation with another fan at SoFi Stadium on Jan. 30. At a press conference days after the incident, Inglewood Mayor James Butts said that surveillance footage showed that Luna, who was wearing a 49ers jersey, pushed the suspect, who was wearing a Los Angeles Rams jersey, from behind.
"It appears that the suspect then retaliated by pushing Mr. Luna from behind and then struck [him] once in the mouth area," Butts explained. "Mr. Luna fell to the ground where he was later found by personnel."
Luna's Peruvian fusion restaurant, Mistura on Piedmont Ave. in Oakland, could be back open "in a week or two," Singer said. "(Daniel is) not fully capable but he's made such a good recovery that he wants to get back in the swing of things," he added.
The suspect, identified as 33-year-old Bryan Alexis Cifuentes Rossell, turned himself in and was arrested on felony assault charges. He is out on bail.
