There had been a group of eight people skating on the reservoir's surface when the ice broke, and six of them fell in. The two still on the surface tried to help get the others out of the water.

But one person who had been skating the furthest away reportedly went under the water, and could no longer be seen by the others.

Once emergency personnel arrived, the party on the surface was able to provide the location where the missing skater had last been seen.

Despite air searches over the lake by emergency personnel and the Washoe County Dive Team, the victim couldn’t be found.

One person in the party was taken to a nearby hospital with a dislocated shoulder and was released that same evening.

No one else was injured in the tragedy.

As of Sunday morning, the drowning victim's body was located and recovered by Washoe County Hasty Team and Placer County Dive Team members, the sheriff’s office reported.

The victim's identity has not yet been released.
