Crews have gained control of the three-alarm grassfire in Oakland, but remain on the scene to address hot spots in the vegetation along the freeway.
The fire began along I-580 at 35th Ave. around 5 p.m.
Multiple structures above I-580 West were threatened by this fire, but aggressive attack actions from first responders prevented injuries and death to people, as well as significant damage to property.
Over 50 firefighters from Oakland, Alameda County, Hayward and Fremont were on the scene.
Traffic has been opened up for southbound 35th Avenue. Firefighters have urged all westbound 580 vehicle traffic to proceed slowly as engines are parked on the right side.
