BART's red line will resume service on Tuesday, two weeks after the agency paused trains between Richmond and Millbrae due to power issues.

The agency limited service on the line two weeks ago Monday, a day after significant delays along the same route. On March 8, a spokesperson told KCBS Radio in a statement that power traction cables broke on March 6 between El Cerrito and Ashby stations. A substation failed in the same section on March 7, leading to power loss at two different stations.
BART said the damaged cables were almost 50 years old, due for replacement four days after it broke. The agency can only run five-car trains along the red and orange lines beginning Tuesday, rather than 10-car trains, because of the broken cables.
"Restoring the red line will help alleviate crowding by offering more frequency and by eliminating the need to transfer to the yellow line for transbay service, despite running shorter trains," the agency said in a statement on Monday. "BART will continue to run five-car trains while crews repair and ultimately replace power cables."
The agency said it hopes to restore full service on Tuesday morning, and no later than the afternoon.
