Limited curfews went into effect in six Bay Area counties Saturday night, as state and local leaders tried to stem the sudden rise in coronavirus cases.
But did residents actually honor the curfew rules?
Many residents in downtown Martinez said yes.
"I'm pretty much up for anything that will slow this COVID down," resident Dave Tooley said, as he strolled past the fruits and vegetables with his wife on Sunday at the Martinez farmer's market.
Tooley said he abided by the curfew and did not go out Saturday night.
The curfew begins at 10 p.m. each night and is in effect until 5 a.m. the following day until at least December 21.
While the curfew impacts the general population, the focus is on younger adults and teens, who like to party in the nighttime hours. But with many college students home for the holidays, some challenges may arise.
"I was out just past that (time), just barely," said Roger Wallace, 27, who believes he followed the curfew on Saturday night. "Just with my girlfriend, out for a couple beers. I'm definitely going to honor it, I don't see any reason not to."
The curfew most impacts counties in the purple tier, which includes Sonoma, Solano, Santa Clara, Alameda, Napa and Contra Costa counties. As of late Sunday, Marin, San Francisco and San Mateo were not impacted, as those counties were not in the restrictive purple tier.
