SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – The winter weather continues to cause havoc on what is one of the busiest travel weeks of the year.

At San Francisco International Airport, weather issues have led to a slew of flight cancellations this week as people frantically try to get home for the holidays.
Many of the 136,000 people filtering in and out of the airport on Friday are being forced to make other plans for the holiday weekend.
"Big airports like O'Hare and Denver are probably the largest impacted because that’s the greatest frequency of flights between SFO and those locations," said Doug Yakel, spokesperson for SFO.
It's not just affecting travel between those areas. Nationwide, thousands of flights have been canceled, with 49 at SFO within just the last 24 hours.
There have been 45 cancelations at the Oakland International Airport and 42 at the San Jose International Airport as well.
Half of those canceled flights were supposed to go within the Pacific Northwest, including flights to Portland and San Diego.
For many, they've been left without a place to stay, and because the cancelations are due to weather, the best offer they're getting from airlines are discount codes for some hotels.
Those traveling this weekend should check their flight status early and often.
