Lindsay, the daughter of couple Annie and Grinnell, was found dead on the west edge of campus, according to a Twitter thread by CalFalconCam, which has been documenting the family for some time.
Lindsay hadn't been seen in the last couple weeks, the last sighting was the first week of August by the Campanile.
She was likely the victim of another predatory bird, a red-shouldered hawk, according to Cal Falcon. While adult birds aren't typically at risk of other species, Lindsay was still a juvenile, having just hatched this past spring.
"The first year of life for a falcon is exceptionally difficult - survival is approximately 40-50% for young birds," said Cal Falcon in the thread. "Juvenile raptors need to learn to hunt on their own and protect themselves from a wide range of dangers, everything from window strikes to starvation."
It's likely that she was killed shortly after her last sighting.
This comes after tragedy already struck the family in April when Annie's longtime mate, Grinnell, was found dead in downtown Berkeley, likely having been struck by a car.
Annie quickly found a new made in Alden who helped foster Annie's three eggs to life, including Lindsay, who hatched in the spring.
"We're sorry to share this sad news with everyone, and wanted to thank Lindsay for all the wonderful memories from this year," wrote Cal Falcon.
