Berkeley police arrest woman wanted for attempted kidnapping

PESCADERO, Calif. (KCBS RADIO) – Berkeley police apprehended a woman suspected of multiple kidnapping attempts on Wednesday.

The woman, 36, has not yet been identified as of Thursday, but has been charged with attempted kidnapping and three counts of annoying/molesting a child, according to a release issued by the Berkeley Police Department.

The first reported incident occurred on August 29th around 5:30 pm, when the woman approached a 14-year-old boy twice while he was working in his front yard on the 2200 block of Jefferson Avenue. She made contact by trying to shake his hand.

Later that same day around 6 p.m., she tried also approaching a 13-year-old girl walking in the area of Allston Way and McKinley Avenue.

A couple of weeks later on September 14th a little after 6 p.m., the woman tried to coax a 15-year-old boy to her car.

The following week on September 20th, she approached a 12-year-old boy riding a scooter at Sacramento Street and Addison Street.

Police were able to identify the woman due to a witness, according to the statement, and they obtained an arrest warrant on September 30th.

The woman was taken into custody Wednesday morning after she was stopped while driving near the North Berkeley BART station.
