An apartment building under construction in Berkeley continued to smolder Sunday afternoon after a massive six-alarm fire broke out late Saturday.

Neighboring buildings also remained evacuated, after the fire erupted in the 2000 block of University Ave. in Berkeley around 6 p.m. Saturday. Fire crews were still dousing the seven-story apartment building with water Sunday morning, which appeared almost like a waterfall coming off the top floor.

There were no visible flames Sunday. Some white and dark smoke was observed.

The neighboring apartment building was evacuated Saturday night. Resident Jesus Flores spent the night with friends and came back Sunday morning to take a look at the damage, having difficulty explaining his feelings.

"A little frustrated and uneasy," Flores told KCBS Radio of how he felt. "A little bit upset and mad maybe, but helpless. What can I do?"

Fire crews said Flores' building will certainly have water damage to some level.

Flores said in his apartment was a good amount of recording equipment, and he was not sure what it will look like when he finally returns home.

"Those are just things," Flores said. "They're material things you have to learn to say 'Easy come, easy go.'"

The cause of the fire is still unknown.
