San Francisco parents are fed up with a sector of the San Francisco Unified School District.

A group of parents, teachers and guardians caravanned around the streets of San Francisco in a school bus on Saturday, gathering signatures for a petition drive to recall three members of the city's Board of Education.

The district protestors gathered next to a bright yellow school bus in San Francisco’s marina green.

"I just have lost faith in the school district," one mother told KCBS Radio explaining that she believes the board has lost their way.

"This last year with the pandemic, they focused on everything but getting our kids back (in school) when a lot of the private schools were going back and doing well with that," she said.

The recall effort targets three board members, President Gabriela Lopez, Vice President Faauuga Maliga, and Commissioner Alison Collins.

Many parents and guardians first became upset with the board in 2020 when they focused on controversial issues, like renaming 50 schools, rather than concentrating on reopening.

The pro-recall organizers have until September 7 to amass the 51,000 signatures needed to qualify for an election ballot.

A recent poll found that 60% of city residents support the recall effort.
