The restaurant, well-known amongst its patrons for its heaping, delicious portions of Chinese cuisine, ranging from sweet and sour pork, salt and pepper spareribs, fell victim to the pandemic and officially closed at the end of February.
Several reviewers on the restaurant’s Yelp page lamented the closure.
"Despite living in the South Bay, whenever I get a chance I'd drive the 40 miles to go to Yan Yan for their delicious & sumptuous clay pots, from lamb, to beef brisket to oxtails simmering in piping hot clay pots," wrote one reviewer, Michael B.
The restaurant opened in 1998 at 2241 Judah St., according to reporting by SFGATE. The place was run by a husband and wife team, and fans of the restaurant frequently commented on their generosity.
"If you order for pick up, lady boss will throw in dessert. If you pay by credit card, don't even try to tip, lady boss will just ask you to order from them again. I'm so glad Yan Yan survived the pandemic," said Helen C.
It's unclear what the owners will do now that the restaurant has closed.
"The poor sweet lady said she has no idea what she will do after restaurant closes," wrote one poster on the Facebook group Bay Area Eats (dine-in / take-out). "Darn COVID-19 for taking away good restaurants!"
The restaurant owners did not respond to KCBS Radio's request for comment at the time of publication.
