The California Highway Patrol said Thursday the agency had identified the company that owns the truck, as well as the truck's driver. The truck company's owner has fully cooperated with officials, according to the agency.
Investigators haven't yet spoken with the driver, but they have inspected the truck.
Officials said the truck, carrying an excavator, hit the bridge at about 10:40 a.m. on Wednesday. The truck was too tall for the bridge's 15-foot limit, and witnesses told KCBS Radio that the driver backed up and drove away.
Crews had to cut out part of the overpass, and the right lane of eastbound I-80 will likely be closed for months before Caltrans can permanently repair it.
In order to better accommodate repairs, Caltrans said Thursday afternoon that three lanes will be closed on Thursday and Saturday beginning at 9 p.m. in order to "in order to install concrete barriers blocking off the shoulder and the far right lane" of the road at the Gilman interchange. The three lanes will reopen on Friday and Sunday, respectively, at 5 a.m.
