A man in Florida has been arrested after allegedly posting a social media threat against schools across multiple states, prompting closures at two Sonoma County high schools on Friday.
Sebastapol police told the San Francisco Chronicle they received a report from West Sonoma County Union High School at 7:35 p.m. on Thursday night about a "specific threat made via social media" against Laguna High School.
As a result, all classes and activities were shut down on Friday for West County High School in Sebastapol and Laguna High School in Forestville.
KRON reported Friday morning that the person who made the online threat was arrested in Florida. The post that circulated was also sent to schools in Florida and Georgia as well as Lincoln, CA.
Details about the social media threat were not released.
Administrators announced the closures at 9 p.m. across school websites and social media platforms, with a message that read they received "a threat" and are cancelling classes out of "an abundance of caution and on the advise of the Sebastapol police department."
An investigation into the incident remains ongoing. Officials said they will update the community as they receive more information.
