Similar to the war-torn Afghanistan of the 1980s and the subsequent wave of immigrants from the region to the U.S., America is expecting a flood of refugees. There is a wave of individuals seeking refuge in the Bay Area, and like before, they are opting for the city of Fremont, where the city holds the largest population of Afghan-Americans in the country.

"If you or anyone goes to Fremont, you'll see Afghan restaurants, grocery stores, mosques, you'll see that there is a vibrant community and culture for Afghan-Americans," said Harris Mojadedi, a member of the Afghan Coalition of the Bay Area.

With the incoming group of Afghan refugees coming to the U.S., what will the revival of the Afghan diaspora look like? How will this help the Afghan constituency in the U.S.?

In this week's episode of "Connect the Dots," we'll hear from Mojadedi and Aisha Wahab--Hayward mayor pro tempore, city councilmember and another member of the Afghan Coalition of the Bay Area - both children of refugees.

They tell us how their community has been able to maintain its culture in the Bay Area following a long journey and decades of war at home, and the barriers facing Afghan immigrants, specifically women, to this day.
