Contra Costa County has begun opening up vaccinations for kids ages 5-11.
Appointments are now open at public health clinics across the county for children over the age of five after the vaccine was approved earlier this week.
Appointments can be made online or by calling 1-833-829-2626. People do not need to be a resident of Contra Costa County, according to the appointment page.
The rollout began sooner than expected, based on a county press release from earlier this week. On Monday, county officials said it was likely to start offering the vaccine at county-run clinics on Saturday.
"I know a lot of parents have been waiting a long time to be able to get their younger kids vaccinated," Diane Burgis, chair of the Contra Costa County Board of Supervisors, said in the release. "We're almost there. If everything goes right, parents will be able to get their children fully vaccinated before the winter holidays."
Contra Costa Health Services officials pre ordered thousands of doses earlier this week, and expected to receive 20,000 in the first batch.
Contra Costa is just the latest county to begin this vaccination process, after San Francisco and Santa Clara County, which began Wednesday, according to reporting by KNTV.
Marin, San Mateo, Napa and Sonoma counties are expected to start administering doses by Saturday. Alameda and Solano counties follow behind, expecting to begin in a little over a week or so.
