The whole fires were set over the weekend, by four separate people with no apparent connection to one another, in a "highly unusual set of coincidences," said Hill.
The fires set spanned an area from the west end of Concord along Highway 4, to Hillcrest Park in Antioch, he said.
All were some type of grass or vegetation fire. While none were structure fires, all were set near the vicinity of businesses or homes.
One of the suspects arrested in relation to the fires had already been under suspicion of investigators in weeks prior.
This particular suspect had been observed leaving the area of at least four fires that had been set, said Hill.
When he was taken into custody, he had to be tased more than once. It was "a challenging arrest," said Hill.
The suspect was then transported from Hillcrest Park to Sutter Delta Hospital. He was by that point in the custody of Antioch Police. But before he could be put into holding he was set to undergo a medical check for further evaluation.
He has since been checked out of the hospital.
One of the four suspects is still under investigation, and while at the moment none seem to be related to one another, it's possible that there could be some connectivity, said Hill.
All were arrested on suspicion of arson.
