Due to a rise in COVID-19 cases, the Alameda County Sheriff’s office announced Friday that Santa Rita Jail will no longer be accepting in-person visitors, effective immediately.

The move was made for the Dublin-based prison after a recommendation by the county public health department.

The sheriff’s office said the suspension will be in effect until further notice.

Professional non-contact appointments remain available.

No other details were released.

As of Friday, Santa Rita Jail had nine positive COVID-19 cases, one of which was symptomatic, out of its 2,075 inmates. Twelve staff have also tested positive for the virus.

Weekly data showed that 893 inmates were fully vaccinated while another  117 have received one shot.
