U.S. Coast Guard and Port of San Francisco officials are responding to a fuel spill at Hyde Street Pier.

A person aboard a 34-foot fishing boat named the Island Cove noticed it was taking on water at around 3 a.m. on Wednesday, officials told KCBS Radio. A Good Samaritan helped the person get off the boat, deploying a boom to contain any leaking diesel fuel.

Port officials responded a short time later and deployed a boom, while a Coast Guard contractor arrived on the scene later Wednesday morning to set up some absorbent pads. A Port spokesperson told KCBS Radio that the fuel leak is "contained," and that officials also coordinated with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife's Oil Spill Prevention and Response.

"Salvage teams are on-site and will begin working to raise the vessel," the spokesperson said.

The boat should be raised within the next two days, a Port official told KCBS Radio's Melissa Culross.

Officials said the boat had 260 gallons of fuel on board, but they weren't yet sure how much had leaked. Since the leak was contained, there is no danger to swimmers in nearby Aquatic Park. A Port spokesperson told Culross he was hopeful there was no impact on wildlife.
