Amid a recent effort to combat organized crime, Walnut Creek has decided to increase police presence at a Nordstrom store.
Walnut Creek’s Nordstrom on Broadway Plaza has been victim to multiple "grab and run thefts" in recent months. Store officials are hoping that by boosting police patrol, they will dissuade future thieves.
Starting on Aug. 4, one uniformed officer will be present at the Broadway Plaza store at all open hours.
Previously, the Plaza Apple store struck a similar agreement with the city after seeing similar robberies. Police reported that the officer's presence has reduced theft.
Nordstrom has stated that they will reimburse Walnut Creek the total $231,514 it will cost to employ the officer overtime.
City council anonymously approved the department store's request on Tuesday night.
