Sixty-year-old Dean Walker, a Pleasant Hill resident and teacher at Pine Hollow Middle School in Concord, was taken into custody on Thursday morning on a warrant. Police said the arrest comes after allegations "related to contact with students at the school," but didn't elaborate further.
"Mt. Diablo Unified School District continues to be committed to providing a safe learning environment for all students," Mt. Diablo Unified School District Superintendent Adam Clark said in a letter sent to parents on Thursday. "This commitment requires us to always look for the best employees we can find, and to immediately separate from those who we determine should not be on our school sites or near our students."
The letter – obtained by KCBS Radio – goes on to clarify that district officials first learned of the allegations against Walker in March. Walker was then "removed from the classroom (all MDUSD sites) at that time and placed on administrative leave during (an) investigation."
The suspect hasn't been allowed to teach following the surfacing of allegations. Clark said district officials have "already taken action toward permanent suspension" of Walker's contract.
The case remains under investigation and hasn't yet been referred to the Contra Costa District Attorney's Office, police said.
Walker is being held at the Contra Costa County Jail.
