Evacuations still in place as fire crews battle Woods Fire in Sonora

SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – Fire crews have been steadily battling the Woods Fire that sparked on Thursday in Sonora in Tuolumne County.

As of the latest update by CAL FIRE Friday morning, the fire is now 10% contained and has reached just 21 acres.

The fire broke out around 8:40 p.m. Thursday evening in the area of Highway 108 and Stockton Road in Sonora. The cause of the fire is currently under investigation.

Throughout the day on Friday, firefighters will continue to construct and strengthen established containment lines with a briefing in the morning at the Mother Lode Fairgrounds.

Crews are still assessing the damage caused by the fire. No injuries have been reported yet.

Mandatory evacuation orders are still in place for the areas of Golden Dove Drive, Circle Drive, Silver Pine Drive, North Drive, Fairway Drive, Outlook Drive, Martha Drive, McKibbon Drive, Alley Drive, Gibbs Drive, and the area east of Golf Links Road.

Roads have been closed as well, including Stockton Road between Highway 108 and Ponderosa Way.

PG&E has also de-energized power lines in the area of North Drive and Outlook Drive.
