Fairfield firefighter critical day after cardiac arrest

A Fairfield firefighter is in critical but stable condition Friday after experiencing cardiac arrest a day before, according to officials.

The Fairfield Fire Department didn’t name the firefighter, but said in a statement that the 33-year-old collapsed as firefighters checked to see if the fire had extended to any enclosed spaces of the home at 530 Arkansas St.

Paramedics on scene performed CPR, and the firefighter was then taken in an ambulance to NorthBay Medical Center.

There, the firefighter regained a pulse, after being attended to by emergency room doctors and nurses. "At this time, we ask for your thoughts and prayers for a full and speedy recovery," officials said.

Firefighters extinguished the fire in the back of the Arkansas St. home, the cause of which remains under investigation.
