Fire crews in Oakland were battling a three-alarm blaze at a home west of the downtown district that spread to at least two neighboring houses Monday morning.
The fire was burning at a vacant house on Chester and 9th Streets, according to Oakland Fire Chief Reginald Freeman. The flames spread to the houses directly left and right of the vacant home, but no other structure was affected.
It's not surprising the houses burned quickly, said Freeman. The Victorians were very old and made almost entirely of wood.
Approximately 50 firefighters were battling the fire.
No injuries have been reported. The number of people displaced is unknown.
The cause is still unkown, although there have been "reports of squatters in the property," said Freeman.
Investigators are on the scene working to determine the cause.
