SAN FRANCISCO (KCBS RADIO) – A San Francisco supervisor is hitting back against what he calls a "ridiculous smear" after flyers appeared in the Sunset District targeting the city official.

According to Supervisor Gordon Mar, the flyers were put up over the weekend to cover posters promoting Mar for reelection.

In bold capital letters, some flyers read "communist pedophile" while others provide a list to characterize the supervisor, reading "more drugs, more homelessness, grooming children, free money to crackheads," and "kick out the Chinese, bring in the gangs."

"This is a disturbing, dangerous smear that's emerged from the fringes of the right-wing, used to attack the LGBTQ community and their allies," Mar said in a tweet. "It's a tired trope, but it does real damage."

Mar revealed it's not the first time he's been the target of unsavory political action throughout the city, explaining that the flyers bear a striking resemblance to a series of "No Slums in the Sunset" flyers put up to attack the supervisor for "daring to support affordable housing for working families."

Despite the disturbing messages, Mar vowed that he will not back down. "I will continue to be a voice for progress, for queer & trans equality, affordable housing, compassionate solutions to homelessness, & for moving forward," he promised in a tweet. "I invite everyone to join me in condemning these hateful attacks, & in the work solving the real problems facing this City."
