Santa Rosa detectives are investigating a case of vicious vandalism at the former home of a police officer who was a defense witness in the Derek Chauvin trial, officials said.

On Saturday at about 3:07 a.m., the home was splattered with blood and a severed pig’s head was left on the front porch, the Santa Rosa Police Department reported.
More than 24 hours after the attack, the front of the one-story home was still covered in pigs’ blood, its entry way windows and front door completely shrouded in deep red.

The target was apparently former Santa Rosa Police Officer Barry Brodd, who last week in a Minneapolis court room defended Derek Chauvin’s kneeing of George Floyd.
The home is now occupied by Brodd’s ex-wife. He hasn’t lived in California for years, but police said it appears the vandals were targeting Brodd for his testimony.
“At 3 o’clock in the morning, around 3, she was woken up by the dogs,” said a close neighbor who spoke with Brodd’s ex-wife hours after the attack. “She has Ring, so she could see what was happening and she saw four people dressed in black splattering the front of her house. She said they were there about a minute and a half and they took off.”
The neighbor told KCBS Radio that Brodd's ex-wife was incredibly shaken up, terrified and angry following the incident.

Police said a sculpture in front of the Santa Rosa Plaza mall was also doused in what appeared to be pigs’ blood with a sign nearby reading “oink oink,” roughly 45 minutes after the home was vandalized.
