Elizabeth Holmes was found guilty on four of the eleven fraud charges against her at the beginning of January this year. Since then, many have waited in anticipation of how her trial's conclusion will affect Balwani's.

Balwani is facing wire fraud and conspiracy charges the same as Holmes, with allegations that he deceived investors on the effectiveness of Theranos' blood testing equipment, according to the outlet.

His trial is set to start as early as Wednesday, according to the outlet, after some delay over jury selection, which was initially finished on Friday. Jurors were supposed to be sworn in on Monday but the process was extended, according to the outlet.

Much of Holmes' trial shifted a good portion of the blame onto Balwani for the company's failures, also alleging that their relationship was controlling and abusive. These allegations will set the tone for Balwani's trial, and have left many curious how his defense will respond.

Balwani's reported "lack of scientific expertise," will likely be part of the strategy, the outlet reported. And it's possible that Balwani's defense team will lodge blame onto other members of Theranos as Holmes' defense did.

The trial is expected to take over three months and Balwani could serve up to 20 years in prison if convicted.
