Golden Gate National Recreation Area may increase fees for some activities, officials announced Wednesday.
The revenue from the fees would help to keep up with the rising costs of managing the park, according to a news release.
Amid the pandemic, officials said many areas of the park have seen a dramatic increase in visitation. Golden Gate National Recreation Area was the second most-visited national park in 2020.
The proposal includes raising fees for camping and day use in the Marin Headlands, as well as increasing or introducing parking fees at four National Park Service-controlled lots in the Presidio of San Francisco. The park also plans to begin charging a fee for an after-hours tour at Fort Point National Historic Site.
The Kirby Cove day use fee would raise from $45 to $75, and the Kirby Cove camping fee would cost $10 more, at $40, under the proposal. The Haypress group camping fee would raise from $5 to $75. The Fort Point Candlelight Tour, which is currently free, would cost between $9.50 and $19 dollars, depending on the age of the tour-takers. Parking would cost $3 an hour at the Battery East, West Bluff, Merchant Road and Langdon Court lots.
The new fees would take effect on October 1, 2021 if they are approved.

The NPS is accepting public comments on the proposed fee changes until June 18, 2021.
