On Friday, McGadney was hit and killed by a driver on I-80 between Fairfield and Vacaville on the freeway's westbound lanes near the Lagoon Valley Parkway and Cherry Glen Road off-ramp, according to KCBS Radio's Victor Zaragoza.

"Jennifer and I were saddened to learn of the death of Caltrans Maintenance Worker Quanda McGadney, a dedicated public servant to the state for more than 18 years," Newsom said in a release. "We extend our deepest sympathies to her family, friends and Caltrans colleagues for their loss."

She was 51-years-old and joined Caltrans in 2018. She is survived by her 9-year-old daughter Nairobi and her two sisters Priscilla Stevenson and Candice McGadney, the release said.

She is the 190 Caltrans worker to die on the job since 1921.

In her honor, the capitol and capitol swing space will fly flags at half-staff.
