Two Hercules High School students were arrested on Monday after a social media photo surfaced of them each brandishing firearms.

Authorities first received a report at 1:27 p.m. about two students being in possession of firearms, according to police Commander Joseph Vasquez. A photo of both teenagers holding the firearms had been posted to an unidentified social media account.
As a result, both Hercules Middle and High School campuses, which share a central office, were placed on lockdown.
"With the assistance of school administration, both subjects were identified as 17-year-old and 15-year-old students," Vasquez said in a release.
Officers located the 15-year-old student on campus and after a search of the school, found a bag containing a firearm with a loaded high-capacity magazine. Authorities determined the student had been in possession of the gun and arrested him for possession of a firearm on school grounds, possession of an unregistered firearm, and possession of a loaded high capacity-magazine.
Later that night, the second student was arrested after a search warrant was executed at his residence in Hercules. Vasquez said an air soft pistol and ammunition for a firearm were also located.
Each student was transported to John A. Davis Juvenile Hall in Martinez.
No other information was available. It's unclear why each teenager had the guns, and who the firearms originally belonged to. No injuries were reported.
