The scope of the devastation is still coming into focus.
Neighborhoods along the gulf coast of Florida have turned into splintered remnants and residents need help.
"It is a huge disaster. It is a huge response that’s going to go on for a long time," Northern California Chapter for the American Red Cross spokesperson Jenny Arrieta told KCBS Radio.
According to Arrieta, there are approximately 1,500 Red Cross volunteers nationwide who are making their way to Florida, 39 of which are from Northern California.
Arrieta said if you are driven to help on the ground it’s not too late to join the effort, no matter your experience level.
"Even if you’re not involved with the Red Cross right now, there is time for you to sign up and get that training and still possibly get involved in this response," she said.
She added that if you don't have the time to train up as a volunteer or your schedule won't let you take the time to travel to Florida, there are plenty of other ways to help.
"Donating money or blood platelets and volunteering. Those are the best ways people can help right now," she explained. "If you’re interested in helping out right now, now is the time. It’s going to be the time for a while."
