San Francisco police allege that a French bulldog stolen in the Marina District on New Year's Day was purchased by a man in Sacramento before being reunited with her owners earlier this week.

Rosie, a 9-month-old French bulldog, was "violently" taken from an unidentified victim who was walking her, authorities said. A suspect grabbed Rosie's leash before they "dragged" into a waiting Chrysler four-door sedan and fled the scene.

After a traumatic two days, Rosie was reunited with her owners when police received an anonymous tip from a man in Sacramento who claimed he had purchased the French bulldog.

An investigator drove to Sacramento, confirming she was the dog in question. Officials said she appeared to be in good health, although the man who purchased her said she had not eaten much.

San Francisco police said the Contra Costa County Sheriff found the vehicle in which the suspect had taken Rosie. A deputy "detained" a man driving the car, who was later "not determined to be the robbery suspect." That car is now in San Francisco police custody, according to officials.

Police said people with information can call the department's tip line at 415-575-4444, or text TIP411 by beginning the message with "SFPD."
