Students have begun moving into on-campus housing at Sonoma State University in Rohnert Park in anticipation of in-person classes.

Despite the recent surge in COVID-19 cases spiked by the delta variant, in-person classes will resume on Wednesday as the college attempts to create some semblance of normalcy.

To diminish COVID-19 spread, a reduced number of students – about 60% – are living back on campus. With limited exceptions, all must be vaccinated and all students and staff must wear facemasks. Students are also required to input their health status each day on a smartphone app.

"They simply answer questions about symptoms that they may be having," a Sonoma State spokesperson told KCBS Radio.

Many students are delighted to be back on campus after enduring a year of online classes, including a Sonoma State University senior who said online schooling was "really rough."

"I’m so happy we’re able to come back," she said. "I think it’s amazing."
