Police are investigating after apparent human remains were found inside a burned vehicle off a roadway in Grass Valley last weekend.
The Nevada County Sheriff's Office was notified on Saturday at approximately 10:20 a.m. of a burned vehicle on the 12000 block of Amber St., according to a release first obtained by the Sacramento Bee.
Authorities arrived on the scene to find the charred vehicle in a grassy area off the roadway and discovered what appeared to be human remains inside. The area was "locked down pending a search warrant and will be processed with assistance from the California Department of Justice, the California Highway Patrol, CAL FIRE, and Chico State Anthropologists."
The case is being investigated as a suspicious death.
Officials said the identity of the victim and cause of the fire are not known.
