This August, the mysterious Nob Hill cocktail den at Julian Hotel is celebrating the Master of Suspense with Hitchcock Month, featuring themed specials and a movie marathon in honor of Alfred Hitchcock’s birthday on Wednesday, August 13.
As Carlotta’s is inspired by the allure of Hitchcock’s infamous film Vertigo, and is aptly named after one of its most mysterious characters, the sultry lounge will be running the specials below all month long.
Highlights include:
Number 13 Martini – Super-chilled gin, atomized vermouth, olive or lemon twist; Hitchcock’s birthday is August 13 and was rumored to be fond of a super dry, super cold martini
Chicken Liver Pâté – Cornichons, black pepper mustard, crostinis; inspired by Hitchcock’s love of rich British-French cuisine
August 13th Birthday Celebration – Hitchcock movie marathon and $8.13 “Number 13” martinis all day
I had the joy of sampling all of the aptly themed cocktails recently. They all speak to Hitchcock and are all tasty to boot, full of drama and flavor much like the great director’s movies. I also sampled Hitchcock’s favorite food, chicken liver mousse or pâté. Perfect in all ways and served with pickled red onion and mini toast.
Food and Beverage Manager, Sean Doherty talked to me about all things Hitchcock; the movie history at Julian Hotel, his passion for pate and the cocktails being served to celebrate the brilliant British movie director and master of suspense.
