John Madden was a true renaissance man, displaying range from football to food to travel and everything in between.
That was on display every time he joined us on KCBS Radio.

"John was here not just to be a travel guide…he was America’s acknowledged experts about the game of football," KCBS Radio Anchor Emeritus Stan Bunger explained. "His role in pro football telecasts for decades informed America about the game, taught us about the sport and many people who never cared about football began to care when John Madden talked about it."
But that didn't stop him from often wandering into other topics.
The Madden Family is holding a public memorial in celebration of John's life on Monday, Feb. 14 at 5:30 p.m. at RingCentral Coliseum in Oakland.
Tickets are on sale via Ticketmaster.
They cost $32.14, the final score of Super Bowl XI when Coach Madden's Raiders beat the Minnesota Vikings to win their first Super Bowl. All proceeds will be directed to Madden Charities for the benefit of the John Madden Foundation to provide educational opportunities for the youth of Oakland.
