King tides are back in the forecast over the next several days, bringing large waves and high sea levels.
King tides occur when the orbits of the earth, moon and sun are all aligned. Meteorologist Sean Miller told KCBS Radio the high tides start on Thursday and will last through Monday.
"Folks are going to want to be cautious, especially if they're along the beach, some of those coastal areas that might be prone to a little bit of flooding during times of high tide," he advised.
The flooding could exacerbate some of the storm damage caused by recent atmospheric rivers. Digital message boards have been put out along the San Francisco Embarcadero, warning pedestrians about King Tides.
One woman visiting from Dallas said she was thankful for the heads up. "We'll probably take another route or walk on the other side or try to get close enough to get a view without being injured," she explained.
The lowest tides will happen during the early evening hours. Along with the tides, some light rain is forecast to hit the region Wednesday night.
