PARADE:BLACK JOY
Come one come all and take to the streets of Uptown Oakland this Sunday for the Black Joy Parade, Sunday at 12:30 p.m. Brothers and sisters, family and friends come celebrate at this big, beautiful and black parade for the whole community.
EAT: COPRA
Chef Sri Gopinathan brings the cuisine of Southern India to SF at Copra. The name refers to a dried coconut ingredient that pops up in almost every dish here. The space at 1700 Fillmore (once home to DOSA) has been beautifully reimagined- tropical in its vibe with hanging baskets and ropes evoking the fishing villages of Chef's homeland, Kerala. The cuisine is inspired by both Kerala and nearby Sri Lanka.
Standout dishes:
Chutney Pallatte: with lentil crisps and four bangin chutney's including one "super kicky" says Chef with Ghost pepper.
Black cod: wrapped in Banana leaf - it was light & delish & melted like butter in your mouth .
Thattukada fried chicken: a Kerala street food that took me back to my travels there a decade ago.
The cocktails are knockout too and this one was a yummy vacation to Kerala, India in a glass.

Tamarind, pear, coconut, curry leaf, winter spices, orange.
COPRA, It's the new kid in the block but make a resy soon as word is getting out about this tasty new spot at the corner of Fillmore & Post.

TV: THE RELUCTANT TRAVELER
