THEATRE: BEETLEJUICE
Based on Tim Burton’s dearly beloved film, BEETLEJUICE tells the story of Lydia Deetz, a strange and unusual teenager whose life changes when she meets a recently deceased couple and Beetlejuice, a demon with a thing for stripes. When Lydia calls on Beetlejuice to scare away anyone with a pulse, this double-crossing specter unleashes a (Nether)world of pandemonium, and the biggest sandworm Broadway has ever seen.
BEETLEJUICE is directed by Tony Award® winner Alex Timbers (Moulin Rouge!, Director of Warner Bros. forthcoming TOTO, the animated musical film adaptation of Michael Morpurgo and Emma Chichester Clark’s 2017 book) with an original score by Tony Award nominee Eddie Perfect (King Kong); a book by Tony Award nominee Scott Brown (“Castle Rock”) and Tony and Emmy Award® nominee Anthony King (“Robbie”); music supervision, orchestrations and incidental music by Kris Kukul (Joan of Arc: Into the Fire); and choreography by Connor Gallagher (The Robber Bridegroom). Tickets for this edgy and irreverent new Broadway musical comedy are currently on sale at broadwaysf.com. BEETLEJUICE will run until January 31st.
FROZEN
From the producer of The Lion King and Aladdin, FROZEN, the Tony®-nominated Best Musical, is now here in San Francisco thanks to Broadway SF. FROZEN features the songs you know and love from the original Oscar®-winning film, plus an expanded score with a dozen new numbers by the film’s songwriters, who’ve won a cumulative 16 Tony Awards.
FROZEN is an unforgettable theatrical experience filled with sensational special effects, stunning sets and costumes, and powerhouse performances. This family favorite is everything you want in a musical: It’s moving. It’s spectacular, and above all, it’s pure Broadway joy. FROZEN, now playing at San Francisco’s Orpheum Theatre. FROZEN will run until December 30th.
EVENT: DICKEN’S FAIR
Head to the Cow Palace Exhibition Halls, San Francisco for the annual Dickens fair. The holiday spirit is alive and well here as we harken back to merry ole England and the age of Charles Dickens. Brand new to the Fair is Vauxhall Gardens (Upper Lobby), a skating rink (with rental skates) and Christmas tree lot with refreshments available, including hot spiced cider. Enjoy a day at the Dickens Fair and return home with a tree for your parlor and memories to last a lifetime. The Dickens Fair will run until this Sunday, from 10 a.m. - 6 p.m.
FILM: THE MENU
Ralph Feinnes is the terrifying, perfection seeking chef in The Menu. The film is a tightly wound, sharply rendered skewering of the dichotomy between the takers and the givers, or in this flick - the eaters and the cooks.
“Do not eat - TASTE” says Chef to the dozen one per centers there on an island ready to dine at the most coveted restaurant resy in the land. The film is bursting with food porn - our beloved SF Chef Dominique Crenn consulted on the cuisine and culinary aspects of the film.
THE MENU is twisted and thought provoking and you may just have to go back for seconds! Now playing in Bay Area theaters.
